The 55+ Club gets together each month to share fellowship and to talk about things of relevance to senior citizens. Regular meetings are on the first Sunday morning of the month, with a brunch at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Sligo Church.
The club also plans tours, both one-day and longer trips to area attractions and to places of interest like San Antonio, Texas. Contact Israel Castro at lhcastro@sligochurch.org for more information.
The 55+ Club also helps people who need a ride to church. If you live within 15 miles of the church, contact Israel Castro and ask for assistance. The service is free, offered with the hope that your life will grow spiritually as you find you can attend church again.
Disciple
"If you make My Word your home, you will indeed be My disciples." John 8:31. Jesus issues a challenge to those who desire to follow Him: take up residence in My teaching. Spend time with Me. Nothing less will do. With this challenge, He also makes a promise: to make a home in My Word is to find a home in My Way. Becoming a disciple is its own reward!
DISCIPLE Bible Study offers Sligo Church a challenge and a promise, as well. The Challenge is to see the regular, in-depth study of Scripture and prayer together as the foundation for all congregational ministry. The Promise is that all who come to Scripture and allow it to have its way will be transformed by the Way of Christ.
DISCIPLE Bible Study has been ongoing in our congregation since 1995 so that persons, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, can experience a power that changes priorities and redirects lives.
Becoming Disciples (34 weeks) is an in-depth encounter with the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Dynamic small group fellowship and prayer initiates personal ministry that is inspired as well as informed. Participants are urged to focus first on listening to Scripture, then aided by the work of reliable biblical scholars to help in their understanding. The aim is transformation, not just information. DISCIPLE requires commitment:
Preparation - daily reading of large portions of Scripture
Presence - meet with the group each week
Participation - bring individual experiences to Scripture
YOUTH DISCIPLE is an age-appropriate version of BECOMING DISCIPLES for ages 16-18. Dates/times vary with adult groups. Registration is through the Youth Department. Visit www.sligoyouth.com.
