Sligo Youth Mission Trip - 2006 - Hurricane Katrina Relief

Hurricane Katrina hit the shores of Louisiana at 6:10 a.m. CDT on August 29, 2005, as a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph.  At landfall, hurricane-force winds extended outward 120 miles (190 km) from the center. 80% of the 1.3 million residents of the greater New Orleans metropolitan area were evacuated. People left behind their homes and their earthly belongings.  Cherished possessions were destroyed by wind and water. But for the survivors what mattered most was not their homes, their cars, or their big screen TVs. What mattered was their survival and the lives of those they loved.

Now it is time to rebuild those lives. “I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”  “Then said I, Here am I Lord, send me.”  Isaiah 6:8
