Ordination/Commissioning Service for Kermit Netteburg - September 30, 2006
Prior to coming to Sligo Church, Pastor Netteburg served as the Assistant to the President for Communication at the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In that role, he was the church's spokesperson, helped the Adventist Review staff produce the North American Division edition of the publication, was president of the Adventist Media Center, conducted training seminars for church communication leaders, produced resources for local churches, was General Manager of Adventist Communication Network and Regional Vice-President of ADRA for North America, served as President of Life Talk Radio, and edited Friday Fax. He also served on the boards of the media ministries and as a member of the division's committees. Pastor Netteburg also was the Director of Communication for the Columbia Union Conference for five years.
Pastor Netteburg's teaching experience includes high school teaching at Campion Academy and Oak Park Academy and college teaching at Andrews University. He earned his B.A. degree from Union College, his M.A. degree from the University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His dissertation on cameras in the courtroom, and whether a televised trial could be a fair trial, was cited in arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court. While at Andrews University, he won the Teacher of the Year award twice, and received the President's Award for Scholarly Publishing seven times.
According to Pastor Netteburg, nothing compares with the thrill of being a pastor - of visiting members, studying with people who want to join the church, teaching seminars on the Bible's application to our life, and helping people discover and use their spiritual gifts. He believes being a pastor is God's highest calling, and his most rewarding.
He is married to Ronnalee, a nursing professor at Columbia Union College. The couple has three adult children - Charity Pitton, Kristin Priest, and Olen Netteburg.
