Growing up as a “preacher’s kid”, Ron Halvorsen, Jr. has been involved with church activities all of his life.  After graduating from the Theological Seminary at Andrew University, he has served in ministry in the states of Florida, Washington, Texas, Montana, and Maryland.

 

Family togetherness is important in his life. Ron loves participating in activities such as camping and hiking with his wife, Buffy, a family counselor, and his son, Ronnie, and daughter, Stephanie, both college students.

 

Ron is a talented preacher, writer, and story teller. His thirst for reading, studying Scripture, and spending time in prayer helps satisfy his passion for intimacy with God.  Ron’s desire for Sligo is to encourage others to have not only a “head” knowledge of God but also the thrill of a “heart” experience of knowing Jesus personally.  His vision and calling is found in Isaiah 61:1-3: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”
